  • ADDITIONAL INFO

A cylindrical shape silver Kiddush cup, which widens toward the top, marked with several marks: the silversmith's maker's mark, Kiev's town mark (the Archangel Michael, wielding a flaming sword), and the Russian silver standard mark (84 zolotniki). The cup is highly detailed and decorated with architectural motifs and floral pattern decorations within arch frames.
The maker's mark "ИЕЗ" is assumed to be the mark of Israel Eseevich Zakhoder (Израиль Есеевич Заходер), who established his workshop in 1851 in Berdichev, one of the main Jewish centers of Ukraine, also titled "Jerusalem of Volhynia". Zakhoder's success led him to Moscow and Kiev, where he continued his artistry which was in demand not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.
