Upright beautiful silver Hanukkah Lamp on a square base. The rounded arms of the lamp rise from the floral and foliage decorated base, holding the eight spouts, centered by a removable servant light - the Shamash. The upper part of the lamp consists of a row of eight candle/oil spouts. The base is set on four paws decorated with acanthus leaves and heart shapes. Marked ST925.

Hanukkah is celebrated in commemoration of the miraculous reconsecration of the Temple in Jerusalem by the Maccabees in 164 B.C.E, after their victory over the Syrian Greek armies of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. The main feature of Hanukkah is the lighting of the Hanukkah lamp, an additional light on each of the eight days of Hanukkah. Hanukkah lamps vary in design, style and material. Unhampered by scriptural restrictions, the Hanukkah lamp has pursued an independent course in its development, absorbing art concepts from its immediate environment.
