In the center of this decorated plate is embossed the Hebrew word "מצה" - "Maza" surrounded with olive branches and the Hebrew words for the six symbolic Passover Seder foods; Maror, Chazeret, Charoset, Karpas, Zeroah, and Beitzah - each with a special significance to the retelling of the story of Passover - the exodus from Egypt - which is the focus of this ritual meal. These are surrounded by six pre-formed spaces for inserting the various foods. The outer rim is beautifully decorated with scrolling floral and foliage ornaments.
The plate is set with two decorated handles, each depicting a scene from the Haggadah and inscribed in Hebrew; "עבדים היינו לפרעה במצרים" ("We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt"), and "ויוציאנו ה' ממצרים ביד חזקה" ("The Lord took as out of Egypt with a strong hand"). Marked on the back "Made in Israel", "Export Quality" and "תמר". Suspension loop on reverse.
