Decorative Hanukkah Lamp by WAINBERG
ADDITIONAL INFO
An upright branched Hanukkah lamp, made by Wainberg. Its base is decorated with vegetal motifs. Above the base are two lions holding the Tablets of the Law (inlaid with blue enamel). Atop the tablets - a crown, maybe a reference to the Crown of Torah. Eight delicate stylized palm tree branches stem from the center. At the tip of each branch there is a flower design. At the top of the lamp is the inscription "HaNerot HaLalu Kodesh Hem" (Hebrew for "These lights are sacred").
In the first two decades to Israel's independence, an industry, producing metal arts and crafts was emerging. These objects of metal arts and crafts reflected the Israeli visual culture and were part of the new visual cannon.
